ABSTRACT
This chapter challenges the formulations of sexuality in psychiatry and sexology by tracing the history of diagnosis, pathology, and dysfunction around sexual desire and activity. Showing how non-pathological forms of asexuality are excluded from these frameworks, the author urges researchers to think about asexuality outside of medical models in order to create new spaces of intelligibility for asexualities.
