ABSTRACT

One instrumental technique that captures an aspect of articulation-lingual articulation-is electropalatography (EPG). The technique has also been used as a tool to provide real-time visual feedback of tongue palate contact patterns to clients in speech therapy. Because EPG is a specialist technique and that the equipment is not inexpensive, at the moment, this technique is usually only used as the last resort with clients who show persistent speech disorders that do not respond to conventional speech therapy approaches. Whether it is carrying out a research project or using EPG as a biofeedback tool in clinics, assessment of lingual articulation using EPG is only a part of an assessment protocol. A Cochrane Systematic Review was carried out to examine the evidence regarding efficacy of EPG therapy for individuals with history of cleft palate specifically. EPG has provided the reader important information on lingual articulation along the transverse plane that the people often have forgotten about.
