ABSTRACT

This chapter explores some of the qualitative and quantitative research tools used to explore and examine volunteering, and identifies the merits of adopting each approach, or a combination of both. It also includes practical and instructional qualitative research approaches suitable for students hoping to begin their research journey in the field of volunteering. The chapter highlights that volunteering research, especially in the domains of events, sport and tourism (EST), is far richer for the wide variety of views and insights that these methods can generate.
