In order to ascertain the plight of black elderly people in their area students should find out the following information:
1 What percentage of ethnic minority elderly do you have on your case-load? 2 From which countries do they originate? 3 What provision exists in your area for black elderly in terms of luncheon
clubs, pre-retirement groups, or day centres? 4 Does your authority have a policy regarding the housing of ethnic minorities
in sheltered housing? If ‘yes’, what is it? 5 What would you like to see your authority do in respect of residential
accommodation, home help, and meals on wheels for ethnic minorities? 6 Having determined which ethnic minority group has the largest number of
elderly in your area, can you ascertain from that group what their needs are and how they feel they would best be met?
