ABSTRACT
The commitment [of the Bruneians] to the Ahl al-Sunna wal-Jama ‘a in theology and to the Shafi ‘i school in law as well as their moderate predilection in religious practices have strengthened Islam and enhanced the Islamic presence in the country. This way Brunei Muslims are not easily trapped into divisive religious thought, practice and action… since religious practices in Brunei have been derived through generations from the Ahl al-Sunna wal-Jama ‘a and the Shafi ‘i school.
