ABSTRACT

It has long been recognized that a significant proportion of individuals with well-documented epilepsy report that some of their seizures seem to be precipitated by emotional stress (Fenwick, 1991; Gowers, 1885; Mattson, 1991). Indeed, the phenomenon of stress-precipitated epileptic seizures has been demonstrated electroencephalographically by many workers among experimental animals (Lockard, 1980; Martinek & Hork, 1970; Swinyard, 1963) and in clinical populations (Antebi & Bird, 1992; Guey et al., 1969; Stevens, 1962).
