ABSTRACT
Despite the considerable and oftentimes contentious disputes that characterize the literature that comprises comparative language research, scholars interested in human language and scholars interested in animal language share common interests that are often clouded by argumentative jargon. In this chapter, we outline these common interests and offer suggestions to facilitate communication among the disparate camps of language scholars.
