ABSTRACT

What does the father’s role in Sweden today look like? This question has been the topic of lively debate in Sweden during the past few years. Popular books have been written (e.g., Kjellman & Wizelius, 1983; Johansson. 1982; Uddenberg, 1982), investigations have been made, and the Minister of Equality (between the sexes) has formed a special task force to study this question. (Does any other country have a minister of equality?) The mission of this so-called “men’s group” is to suggest measures that might hasten the development of equality between men and women. In 1985, the group published its first major report, entitled “Mannen i förändring” (“Men’s changing role”).
