ABSTRACT

Performance in soccer is a consequence of a number of inter-dependent factors that include the technical and tactical abilities of the player, their psychological make-up and their physiological capabilities. The physiological demands of soccer require players to be competent in several aspects of fitness. Important attributes include high levels of aerobic fitness, the ability to sprint (in repeated bouts as well as one-off efforts), anaerobic power, good forcegenerating capabilities (muscle strength) and flexibility (Svensson and Drust, 2005).
