HVDC transmission shows its previous advantages in the distant and the great electric power system, which not only improves the economic standard and technical capabilities of the electric system, but also makes the electric system more reliable. Especially in the last century, as the rapid development of high-power electric technique and computer control technique, the HVDC transmission can be developed more rapidly. According to the statistical data of grid faults, the total number of trips caused by lightning strike in AC high voltage and ultra high voltage transmission line was accounted for 40%- 70%. The operating experience of ±500kV HVDC transmission line also indicates Lightning strike of DC transmission lines are very serious in our country.
