ABSTRACT

The driving task relies on the driver constantly seeking visual information stemming from the environment, associated with the acquisition of certain items of information inside the vehicle.

These visual exploration strategies are organised in relation to the driver’s specific functional capacities according to his or her age (Wierwille, Autin, Dingus and Hulse, 1988). Other factors can also be involved, such as the driver’s experience (Neboit, 1982), the type of road infrastructure (Shinar and Eberhard, 1977) and the environmental conditions (night driving: Meyer, 1989).
