ABSTRACT

Achillea L. is one of the important medicinal plants, belongs to the family Asteraceae, and is distributed worldwide. Since long back, various Achillea species have been used for the treatment of various ailments, including wound healing, bleeding, headache, flatulence, dyspepsia, body pains, inflammation, and spasmodic diseases. Further, phytochemical studies of Achillea spp. have also reported several bioactive constituents, viz., terpenoids (monoterpenes, diterpenes, triterpenes, and sesquiterpenes), flavonoids, sterols, phenolic acids, and coumarins; which have strong efficacy. Besides this, the plant has already been mentioned in the traditional system of medicine. Keeping these views in mind, the present chapter reviews the diversity, market potential, and ethnomedicinal uses of the Achillea genus, which have been explored based on systematic validation, including in-vitro and in-vivo investigations.
