ABSTRACT

Organizations are increasingly adopting digital platforms to accomplish circular economy goals, and academic research is progressively reflecting this trend. This article aims to provide a systematic review of the existing research on the relationship between the digital platform and circular economy, together with an analysis of the opportunities and challenges for developing countries in this regard. A systematic literature review (SLR) was conducted on 75 selected publications from published works indexed in the Scopus and Clarivate Web of Science databases. First, we used bibliometric techniques, such as keyword co-occurrences and bibliographic coupling, to get significant insights into the literature at the intersection of digital platforms and circular economy research, which helped us understand the evolution of publications in the subject. In addition, we drew on SLR to build a framework that describes the many digital platforms mentioned in the literature and how they impact the results of the circular economy. Furthermore, based on the existing literature, we have also documented opportunities and challenges for developing countries in the domain of digital platforms to be utilized for progression in circular economies. We have also provided the limitations and avenues for future research.
