ABSTRACT

The use of phytochemicals, particularly flavonoids, in disease prevention and medication is widely recognized. Naringenin, a naturally occurring flavonoid, exhibits various pharmacological effects, including antioxidant activity, free radical scavenging capacity, as well as anti-inflammatory and anticancer properties. There is also evidence suggesting that naringenin may have therapeutic effects against COVID-19 by inhibiting the main protease, 3CLpro, and reducing the activity of ACE2 receptors. This chapter discusses the significant findings from in silico and other investigations on naringenin as a bioactive phenolic compound. Further in vivo and clinical studies are necessary to validate its therapeutic potential as an antiviral agent.
