ABSTRACT

Monitoring and maintaining water quality are key to sustaining a healthy ecosystem and a balance across economic, social, and environmental factors. Traditional water quality monitoring techniques are often laborious, monotonous, one-off, and time-consuming. The recent advancements in Internet of Things (IoT) technologies have facilitated faster and robust real-time monitoring of water parameters. IoT platform enables the use of a wide range of sensor technologies and transmission of large volume of monitored data reliably over a diverse range of wireless protocols. This chapter aims to provide a review of the most common water quality-indicative parameters and an overview of the different aspects of IoT platforms used for real-time monitoring of such parameters.
