ABSTRACT

This work aims to achieve two goals: to gather a set of data consisting of the geometric characterization of several ships, at both a global and local level and to study how these geometrical characteristics affect some of the most important structural design aspects, namely the stiffened panel strength, the local strength assessment of the secondary structure and the total panel production costs. For this purpose, two databases were implemented: ships database presenting all the global geometrical characteristics of several ships; ship panels database, which comprised all the geometrical information at a local level. Three main studies were carried out focusing on structural integrity and production costs. The stiffened panel strength study and the local strength assessment allow evaluating the structural integrity of the ship was affected by variables. The panel production costs assessment evaluates how ship types and their dimensions affect the profitability of a newbuilding.
