ABSTRACT

The real revenue potential for an indie game is unlocked with diversification. Being a fan of video games is so much more than just playing games, and all of those ways that fans participate in their passion can be potential profit drivers for our project. The kind of open mindedness can lead to incredible moments. The raw creativity that indies bring to the table coupled with their inherent scrappiness can unlock some very cool opportunities, so don't let the stereotypes of the “bean counter” or the “sellout” hold the peoples back from fully exploring our options. The cornerstone of revenue in the games industry, indies can make money by selling their games to players. On top of the math, platforms will consider other factors for a minimum guarantee, such as genre relevance, the quality of the game, and the timing of the release. These factors are much more abstract than the financial and conversion data.
