ABSTRACT

After hearing the papers in this session, I am very encouraged about the state of our field. Because of my involvement in both vertebrate and invertebrate neurophysiological studies, I have always been impressed that these systems involve multiple kinds of receptor neurons with radically different specificities, sensitivities, and temporal patterns. We are now coming closer to being able not only to dissect the responsible components within individual neurons but also to decipher differences between individual cells.
