ABSTRACT

This paper describes a method to describe the tire-road-interaction more accurately. It is shown that the parameterization of physical tire models can be improved using measured shear forces in the tire contact area. This additional step in the model parameterization process enables an accurate investigation of the tire-road-interaction on different surface textures. It is further shown that the resolution of the road model used in the simulation needs to be matched not only to the maneuver being simulated, but also to the parameterization process applied. Only when considering the road model and the tire model together during the parametrization process a realistic modelling of the tire-road-interaction can be achieved.
