ABSTRACT

Many countries are facing difficulties to provide an effective and efficient green sustainable system due to increase of population and economic developments. Inappropriate waste management is one of the major concerns for ecological pollution such as greenhouse emissions, methane emissions, etc. in smart cities. The World Health Organization (WHO) finds one-fourth of the diseases of human beings are affected by prolonged contact with environmental pollution due to waste dumping in the sea and on land nearby rural areas and slums. Sustainable management in green cities is achieved through strategic planning, smart city initiatives, creating live smart cities, economic inducement, technologically feasible techniques, communal involvement, etc. This chapter deals with smart city initiatives, challenges at a global level and its green smart city applications.
