ABSTRACT
This section presents an overview of the fundamental concepts that are discussed in detail in subsequent sections of this chapter. We first present a brief characterization of the notion of a fuzzy set, commenting upon its significance as the basis of a methodology to represent properties that an object may possess to various degrees while allowing modeling of complex systems at various levels of resolution or granularity.
