Today, IT management can form contracts with third-party vendors for almost all IT services ranging from data center operations to acquiring packaged software and systems development. IT outsourcing literature provides some reasons why outsourcing is popular:
Because of the economies of scale, companies’ costs are reduced.
Companies are able to purchase expertise that is not otherwise available.
IT staff is available for projects that may have a greater strategic value.
