ABSTRACT
John Stuart Mill is not the only philosopher who has made epistemological arguments for liberal values. In this chapter, we consider the liberalism of John Rawls and in particular his argument for “political liberalism” based on the “burdens of judgment.” We assess the position that liberal political neutrality is impossible and the position that liberalism is self-defeating.
