ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on effective interventions for women in the correctional system. Following a review of women and girls under correctional supervision, the chapter discusses the extent of services for women and girls and the development of gender-responsive strategies. A review of the theoretical perspectives underpinning gender-responsive strategies is offered along with a discussion on how to reconcile this approach with the risk-need-responsivity (RNR) model. The chapter concludes with a review of how to apply the RNR principles when working with this population.
