ABSTRACT
Chapter 6 provides a review of the importance of relying on behavioral theory when attempting to change behavior long term. Introducing the concept of behavior management systems, the chapter provides the reader with examples of how these systems can be used to target criminogenic needs. In this context, the core correctional practices of effective reinforcement and disapproval, effective use of authority, anti-criminal modeling, and quality interpersonal relationships are introduced. The chapter also notes the difficulties agencies might experience when implementing these systems and offers recommendations for improvement.
