Soil moisture is an important component of the terrestrial environment that significantly regulates water circulation and surface energy exchanges between land surface and the atmosphere (Jackson 1993; Vereecken et al. 2014). It is an important factor affecting the budget of the hydrological cycle, specifically by separating rainfall into runoff, surface infiltration, and evapotranspiration (Jawson and Niemann 2007).
