ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on neurological restitution and pathophysiological issues that contribute to neurological recovery and the associated psychosocial abilities that occupational therapists address to maximize capabilities of persons with Parkinson’s. Management of these patients has changed in the last decade. Therefore, it is essential for occupational therapists to determine what and how the hallmark signs and symptoms and various therapeutic approaches discussed in earlier chapters affect function in Parkinson’s. These would lead to utilizing occupation related assessments and intervention strategies for the stipulated deficits. Occupational therapists can then function as a member of the multidisciplinary team, and plan and implement novel solutions. Such occupational therapy approaches would maximize restitution (by considering the uniqueness of each individual), hasten their rehabilitation, and improve their quality of life.
