ABSTRACT

Pain is an important but underrecognized symptom in Parkinson’s disease (PD). The potential causes of chronic pain due to PD are protean, and an accurate diagnosis can be difficult. For most individuals with PD, the clinical features of bradykinesia, rigidity, tremor, postural instability, dementia, and other impairments dominate the clinical picture. Most patients, however, when questioned directly, will report painful symptoms or discomfort that they regard as connected to their Parkinson’s disease.
