ABSTRACT

In recent years, because of the large amount of heavy traffic and increase of bridge service life, the damage and disease of highway bridges have become more and more serious in China. In order to meet the needs of the society, we developed a new modified polymer concrete, which has super lightweight and high bending strength. The experimental research results show that two kinds of material tests, such as tensile bonding test and direct shearing test, were carried out. The main results were obtained as follows: (1) the bonding and shearing strengths of this new modified concrete are both larger than that of normal polymer concrete; (2) the bonding and shearing strengths of this new modified concrete depend on that of substrate concrete, since the damage exists in the substrate concrete rather than the interface between the new material and substrate concrete; (3) both bonding and direct shearing strengths meet the requirements of the current specification in China.
